Meowoodle

This great tumblr only features drawings on cats, my kind of tumblr.

(PS I'm thinking of getting this one tattooed)

Thousands Under Ninety

Another great side project from Jessica Hische, Thousands Under Ninety, lets you be rewarded for all your hard work.

Astronomy for a rainy Monday

We have had so much rain recently that there has been very little opportunity for stargazing (not that I am in any way complaining about the rain).  To compensate, here are some astronomy-related videos and links for inspiration. :)

Firstly, another beautiful time-lapse video from Knate Myers.  The photos used were all taken from astronauts aboard the ISS.  The soundtrack is from the movie Sunshine (which I only recently saw) and lends a gravity (no pun intended) to the video.

Speaking of the ISS, our favourite astronaut, Col. Chris Hadfield has been quite active since returning to Earth.  He has released a book An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, is championing Movember (see video below), and was also interviewed about the new movie Gravity and his fear of floating off into space.

And, if you haven't seen it already, this fantastic cartoon, written by Hadfield and illustrated by Gavin Aung Than is really uplifting and I think can apply to any goal in your life.

And lastly, a great video (below) and article about the Very Large Array that was used in the movie Contact.

Llama Font

Seriously, go to http://llamafont.com and type in anthing to be siad in Llama, made my day.

Cat Massage

After a long weekend, this is possibly one of the best videos to start your week with!  I love the 'Whisker Watch Alert' lol.

Joss Whedon T-shirts

I love Joss Whedon and after seeing this great youtube from the recent Comic-con (below), only thought to find some Joss T-shirts.

Here are my favourite shirts from Red Bubble.

Kitten Socks

I love cat paraphenalia as much as the next person but wonder if I were to wear it, if it would scream 'Crazy Cat Lady' too much.  Here are my two new favourites from Eley Kishimoto.

Signet Ring

I never had a signet ring growing up but I have totally fallen in love with this one from Cat Bird NYC. I really like the cursive script used, and it's diamond encrusted, what's not to love?

Knitting

I love all the great knitting patterns that are available, it is definitely no longer just bad Christmas jumpers anymore.  My absolute favourite is The Purl Bee which also has other patters (crochet and quilts) but this top is currently on my 'to finish' list.

Wool and the Gang is a new favourite and next on my knitting list will be something from them.  I really like these shorts, they're really cute.

Cycling Accessories

I have taken up cycling this year and now commute to work by bike about three times a week.  It's only 4km each way but better than nothing, right?  Well, since buying my bike, (a 6-speed from Reid Cycles), I've become slightly obsessed with cute cycling accessories.

My bookmarks are overflowing with cycling things, and here are some of my favourites:

Avant Garde Cat Video from 1940s

Possibly one of the first ever cat videos by film-couple-duo Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid from the 1940s.  It tells the tale of their two cats who get pregnant, give birth, and mostly have a happy cat family.  I love the part where the dad-cat comes to inspect the kittens and tries to give mum-cat a swipe and ends up being cleaned by mum-cat.  The little kittens are so cute!

Read more about it here in The Atlantic.

Cat Island Paradise in Japan

Fubirai has photographed these beautiful cats who live on the island of Fukuoka in Japan.  The photos are part of a five year project and are amazing!  A cat-lady's paradise :)  Photo via buzzfeed.

Brisbane City in the Sun

This video has done the rounds recently but I had to share it as well.  Some of it is so quaint and funny - enjoy!

A Year of Sky on Earth

A History of the Sky from Ken Murphy on Vimeo.

Check out this amazing video of the sky from the same place, taken every day for a year.  It's so interesting to see the different sunset and sunrise times throughout the seasons.  Read more about it here at NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day.

Seeing Saturn

On Saturday night, I saw Saturn and it's rings through a telescope for the first time.  It really was an amazing experience seeing the elongated rings around the planet, tiny as it was.

It has reminded me how much I want to check out the Brisbane Astronomical Society and go along to one of their public viewing nights (number 5 on my list).

19 July 2013 was 'The day the Earth smiled', whereNASA's Cassini (a spacecraft that is currently orbiting Saturn), turned it's camera on Earth and took a photo of Saturn and it's rings with Earth in the background.  There were lots of events around the globe to celebrate this fun, slightly arbitrary day, but the photos that resulted are really quite amazing.

Is Ryan Gosling cuter than a puppy?

Well, it's not a cat tumblr, but it is really cute.  Is Ryan Gosling cuter than a puppy? is soo funny, and so cute, and it's almost Friday :)

Return to blogging

I had taken an unplanned break from blogging, but am back to give this regular blogging thing another go.  Without going into too much detail, essentially I've been the burning the candle at both ends and had way too much on my plate.  I've cut back but also created a thirty before thirty list to help me out.  The list can been seen here.

And, to ease myself back into blogging, I have a series of cat themed posts planned for the week :)

Astrophotography

These amazing photographs are by French photographer Thierry Cohen.  He has combined photos of cities, which have altered to remove light, and photos of the night sky from similar locations, to create these images.  They're stunning, what a creative use of astrophotography.

Maddie On Things

Isn't Maddie the cutest/talented dog?  Maddie was rescued by photgrapher Theron Humphrey (she is a Coonhound if you're interested), and he photoblogged about his trip across America with her and has just released a book about it.  You can read about Maddie and see more of Maddie on things at www.maddieonthings.com, buy the book here and see the iPhone app here.

Brisbane Hyperlapse

You may have already seen this one floating around the internet, but it was too good not to share again.  here is my city, Brisbane, in a hyperlapse video by Daduxio.

Pattern Wednesday #14

I hope everyone had a good long weekend, I spent the time getting my hair bleached and spending time with family.  Here is the only pattern I could muster this week, I decided to take a much needed computer break!

Here is the single tile:

And here is the tiled pattern:

The Matboard

Have you used The Matboard?  I've just started.  It is similar to Pinterest (which I really don't like using) but designed for creatives and encourages you to create your own portfolio board to share.

In their own words: "The Matboard is a social bookmarking hub for the creative world which will enable users to explore, share, and inspire creative work via two of the most compelling elements of social media: creative visual content and social media sharing capabilities. The Matboard will offer the creative world a digital platform from which they can connect with others based on their shared creative tastes and interests."

I've only created one board for the moment, embroidered illustrations, feel free to have a look.
