Meowoodle

This great tumblr only features drawings on cats, my kind of tumblr.

75 Parisiennes is a collection of images by French photographer, Baudouin, of Parisienne women. The colour schemes are amazing, and I love how many of the photos have cats in them (one even looks like the cat pushed the woman down the stairs). See them all here.

Quilts at QAGOMA

While I was browsing the QAGOMA website, I had a look at what's coming up. They always have great programs, which is one of the reasons I'm a QAGOMA member. From 15 June - 22 September, QAG is exhibiting, in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), 'Quilts 1799-1945'. The V&A museum sell beautiful fabrics on their site and I'm hoping that the exhibition might bring some to the QAGOMA gift store.

To compliment the 'Quilts 1799-1945' exhibition, from 13 July - 6 October, QAG is showing another quilt exhibition, this time of a Brisbane local, 'Ruth Stoneley: A Stitch in Time'. Ruth Stoneley had a quilting shop in highgate hill and the exhibition includes her quilts and also shows some of her processes.

Pattern Wednesday #8

Happy Boxing Day!

Harriet Gray has long been one of my favourite illustrators (you can find her here, here and here). Her pattern work is quite mesmerising and I really love the hand-drawn aesthetic. She also includes kittens and pugs in her patterns, how could you go wrong?

APT7

The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) is back for it's 7th installment at QAGOMA, APT7. APT is one of my favourite exhibitions and I hang out for it every 3 years. There is an opening 'up late' night this Saturday, 8th December, which I am so looking forward too. More details here.

Astronomy

I'm obsessing over Astronomy at the moment, in particular artistic representations, especially old ones. One of my favourite things to do is to see the Saturday night live show at the Brisbane Planetarium (incidentally Brisbane was named for Sir Thomas Brisbane who was a keen astronomer and built Australia's first observatory).
Here are some of my current favourite finds.

Weekly Web Round-up

Well, it's not really weekly but I couldn't resist the alliteration.

Warning: This is quite an eclectic mix of things.

First up are two kitten websites for those so inclined; Lola is Beauty and dreamcats. The first does a wonderful series on bloggers and their cats which makes me more inclined to include my two on this blog. I know I can get a little cat crazy so do try to keep the crazy in check when interacting with others. Dreamcats is a tumblr site filled with many pictures of kitties. If you do like cats I would also recommend the Catorialist which I have mentioned here before.

Can't believe it has taken me so long to post about this one - the portrait has actually been done now. Read here about the 85 day project to lobby Eddie Vedder to take his portrait.

DIY Children's Book

Check out this awesome book this couple created for their nephew for his first birthday. It's given me inspiration to create something for twins for their 4th birthday this year - I love being an aunty! (at The Indigo Bunting)

Steedicons is a pack of hand drawn icons for purchase for use on business cards and websites and the like. The general design of the website makes me want to buy them and I really like the twitter/facebook icons. Encourages me to do more of this kind of drawing. (via A Cup of Jo)
Elephant - a book of opposites by Pittau & Gervais

My lovely sister Katie showed me this site of a few stills from the book Elephant. Not your typical kids book but it definitely made me laugh. Thought is might be hard to find but you can get it on Amazon.com and it looks like there are a few other tittles as well such as 'That's Disgusting" and "That's Dangerous".
Camera Lenses for your iPhone

Photojojo sell Fisheye, Macro and Wide Angle lenses that magnetically attach to your iPhone (or other camera phone). Don't know how well they work in person but I would love to try them!
Pattern from Wikstenmade

Haven't done any sewing this year but am eager to finish my quilt as it's getting colder here. I love Wikstenmade and an easy tank pattern might be enough to get me in the mood for more sewing :)

Life Drawing

My awesome sister put me on to these two sites for life drawing by pixelovely.com. One is for Humans the other for Animals. You choose what you would like to view (male/female, dog/cat etc) and then the length of time (30 seconds/5 mins/1 hour etc) and then it just cycles through photos for you to practice your sketching/painting/whatever. Cool hey?

Keep Calm Gallery

I love posters with words and am in the process of doing up a few of mine own to have printed and hang up at home but in the mean time here's a great gallery I found here.

Our Print Is On It's Way

So a little while back I featured some beautiful prints from Nan Lawson and I ended up ordering a custom print for our anni coming up in May and I got the final electronic versin yesterday! The hard copy should be in the post soon and I am soooo excited. Since I know Steve won't read my blog, here it is!
