Photography Blog Lovin

I cam across this beautiful blog, Orange Juice etc (as well as their flickr and etsy pages) while browsing the other day.  It is maintained by two photographers from Seattle, Elias and Theresa Carlson, and their photos are beautiful!  I have started my journey back into using film and they have inspired me even more!

Embossing Address Stamp

These blind embossing stamps from Wedding Paper Divas are so beautiful.  I really love the idea but I tend to move, on average, once a year so it seems like quite a big commitment to what will be, a temporary address.  It's almost worth getting a PO Box just for the stamp.

I came across this great, free, online magazine called Emma Magazine.  Their second issue can be found here.  Also if you go to their website and click on 'printables' it has a link to a lovely 2013 Wall Calendar you can print out, as well as other lovely free downloads :)

Design Workshops

I seem to have an insatiable thirst for learning but this year, I'm taking a year off formal study (although there is always mid-year entry).  I have however, signed up for a few workshops instead.  Hopefully, the fun and short nature of these workshops will be less stressful than full time study but I have managed to book in quite a few!

So far I'm enrolled in:

• '1 Day Screen Printing Workshop' - Milli and Fink
• 'Watercolour 101' - Nicole's Classes

Pattern Wednesday #7

So I've found a new supply of pattern resources (and how to guides) over at Pattern People.  They have a whole range of downloadable patterns here including illustrator versions but I had a hard time trying to find us usage age terms & conditions.

I love the random & repeatable nature of their 'Crystal Web' pattern but my favourite would be the 'Cross Stitch' Pattern.  Images via Pattern People, Enjoy!

Architecture for Dogs

Have a look at this awesome site featuring architectural plans for dogs that you can print out and make yourself.
My favourites are the Pug (by Kengo Kuma), the Beagle (by MVRDV) and the Dachshound (by Atelier Bow-Wow).

Pattern Wednesday #5

Last wednesday I posted some patterns that I had done as part of a Nicole's Classes, Making A Pattern class.  For the second week of the class, I produced some more interesting and complicated patterns.  For these patterns, I used the Dovera Pictura book 'Islamic Design' for inspiration.  

The first pattern I tried I ended up re-doing about 3 times as it was really hard to make it symmetrical but I figured it out eventually after much cursing at the computer.  For the second pattern I chose a slightly simpler design to give my eyes and frustration level a break!

I'm currently doing a Making A Pattern class over at Nicole's Classes for a bit of fun and it brush up on my Illustrator skills. This is the random repeat pattern I created for Week 1:

Kate Miss Jewellery

I've been a big fan of Kate Miss' jewellery and her blog, For Me, For You, for a long time. I especially love this photo of her cat Wendy which I bought not too long ago.  I recently bought one of her clay necklaces, and while the necklace is beautiful and I where it all the time, the part I loved the most was the great packaging, complete with a CD and hand-written thank-you note, that came with it.  It was all presented so beautifully that I haven't been able to throw any of it out - even the twine!

Flexigon

I saw this video on Creative Mornings from Kelli Anderson (via Emma Dime) and was throughly inspired by her work.  In particular I liked her flexigon Christmas Card that she created.  I love paper and paper designs and all things folding and origami so flexigons really intrigue me.  I would love to have a go at creating one and found a couple of how-tos here and here.  Another one to add to my project list.

My Issuu Demo Page

I'm in the process of putting together a publication at work and thought we might use Issuu to publish it online.  So, I went ahead and created a dummy magazine and published it to see how easy the process was and it really was very easy.  You upload the file, refine a couple of settings if you want, and they give you the code to embed on your own site.  Yes, there are ads down the side but it is nice to have a product that is easy to use and works first time!
